Welcome to Newmarket
Centrally located in the middle of York Region, Newmarket is a flourishing community that spans roughly 38.07 square KM, and offers a great blend of big-city amenities, while maintaining the charm of a small town.
Newmarket is home to the York Region Municipality offices, the York Region Courthouse, Southlake Regional Health centre (& Stronach Cancer Centre), The Upper Canada Mall and many other large scale businesses that feed the local economy.
Originally settled in 1800 by a group of Vermont Quakers, Newmarket began its history around Mill Pond (now known as Fairy Lake) and in 1857 was incorporated as a village with a population of 700. Today, the town of Newmarket has been designated as one of Canada’s ‘Places to Grow’ which will help the community collect government funds to help build its transit and road infrastructure to ensure the expected growth is properly managed.
Located between Toronto and the Muskoka Cottage Country, Newmarket is a very desirable place to live for those looking for a nice work-life balance, especially in the summertime when 400 Hwy is jammed with cottage traffic heading north. The township prides itself on the growing outdoor trail system, centred around the Tm Taylor trail, which connects to Aurora’s Nokia Trail and East Gillimbury’s Rogers Reservoir.
Newmarket is an easy commute to Toronto by car down the 404 or 400 highways, by train on the train, or by bus on the GoBus or VivaBus’. There are plenty of options for those going to and from Toronto.
