Armitage is located in the south central part of Newmarket. It shares a border with the Town of Aurora which is situated south of Saint John’s Sideroad. The frenetically paced Yonge Street forms the west border of the neighbourhood which is in stark contrast to the green corridor that forms the eastern boundary of the neighbourhood including: Bailey Ecological Park, Paul Semple Park and the St.Andrews Valley Golf Club. There are several signs in the neighbourhood indicating that Armitage is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine Greenbelt corridor. This accounts for the varied topography with some very steep hills and lots of winding roads. The focal point of this family oriented neighbourhood is Armitage Village Public School .
The houses in this neighbourhood may best be described as Colonial Suburban or Vernacular and were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They are all brick and most are detached with a few townhome enclaves mixed in as well. These houses are moderate in size and well suited to families. Double car garages at the front of the home figure prominently into the design. The streetscapes are lined with black cast iron street lamps and the roads are long and winding creating a lively and impressive streetscape.
