The neighbourhood of Huron Heights and Leslie Valley is characterized by rolling hills and a lush green valley which are shaped by the Holland River. The first pioneer settlers arrived around 1801 and began farming the land.
Huron Heights-Leslie Valley is situated in the northwest section of Newmarket which was originally part of the Township of East Gwillimbury. This neighbourhood is situated in the northeast part of Newmarket. Like most of Newmarket, one will experience a hilly green corridor created by the East Holland River watershed. Huron Heights Drive and Leslie Valley Drive are two of the main arterial roadways that wind their way through the neighbourhood.
This is an affordable entry level neighbourhood with excellent schools and access to nature and parkland including the Nokiidaa Bike Trail. The pastoral farm land immediately to the north is the neighbourhing Town of East Gwillimbury and to the east of Leslie Street is the Newmarket Industrial Park. Green Lane is the busy stretch of road just to the north of this neighbourhood that connects commuters to Highway 404. There is also a Go Train Station on Green Lane East making this an ideal neighbourhood for commuters. Huron Heights Secondary School has a highly regarded arts program called Arts Huron that attracts students from all over Newmarket and other parts of York Region who must apply and try out for acceptance into the program.
The houses around Leslie Valley Drive are typical detached, brick subdivision homes with street facing front gables and a garage in the front of the home. Most of these houses are detached and similar in size. The Huron Heights enclave features houses that date mostly from the 1960's and 1970's so in the case of purchasing a home in this area you may find that updates are needed to bring the interior to a more modern state. One will also find modest bungalows, brick split-level and ranch style bungalows and colonial revival homes.
